ABOUT PASTEL DE NATA
Pastel de nata, or Portuguese custard tarts, are a world-famous pastry
consisting of a flaky, crispy puff pastry crust filled with a creamy, slightly
caramelized egg custard.
Originating in the 18th century at the Jerónimos Monastery
in Lisbon, these tarts are a deeply ingrained cultural symbol of Portugal.
They are traditionally served warm, often with a sprinkle of
powdered sugar and cinnamon, and are celebrated for their unique contrast of
textures and flavors.
